Our Why

Books born from the classroom, written for every kind of learner.

Waggin' Tales Books was founded by Mary Chisholm and Emily Fogarty — a special education teacher, dyslexia tutor, and SEL specialist teamed up with a kids' movement and fitness instructor. Every story we write is rooted in real classroom experience with neurodiverse learners.

We believe every child deserves to see themselves as brave, capable, and worthy of a great story — especially the ones who've struggled to feel that way in a traditional classroom.

Dyslexia-Friendly

Designed with neurodiverse readers in mind — readable fonts, short sentences, and rich illustrations.

SEL at the Core

Every book weaves social-emotional learning into the story — courage, empathy, inclusion, and self-regulation.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Waggin' Tales Books, school visits, and our resources.

What age group are Waggin' Tales Books designed for?
Our books are written for elementary-aged children roughly between ages 4 and 10. They're especially well-suited for kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms, but the SEL themes resonate with older kids too — and the grown-ups who read alongside them!
Are your books dyslexia-friendly?
Absolutely. Our books are designed with neurodiverse learners in mind. Mary is a trained dyslexia tutor who uses Orton-Gillingham methods, and that expertise is baked into every page — from font choices and sentence length to pacing and rich visual storytelling.
What is SEL and why is it in your books?
SEL stands for Social-Emotional Learning — the process through which kids develop self-awareness, empathy, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships. Research shows that SEL skills are just as important as academic skills for long-term success. Our stories are designed to spark those conversations naturally, through characters kids genuinely love.
Can you visit our school or library?
Yes! Mary and Emily love visiting classrooms, libraries, and events. School visits include interactive read-alouds, discussion prompts, and movement breaks inspired by Mary's Barre and Pound fitness training — because kids learn best when they move! Use the "Book a Visit" button to check availability and submit a request.
Do you offer educational resources for teachers?
We do! Our Resources section includes SEL learning materials, discussion guides, and printable activities aligned with our books. Teachers and school counselors can download these to use alongside classroom read-alouds or in small-group SEL instruction.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, PayPal, and Venmo for direct payments. All transactions are secured with SSL encryption so you can shop with confidence.
What is your shipping policy?
We offer free shipping on all orders over $35 — no code required! International shipping is available for orders over $59. Orders are typically processed within 1–2 business days and you'll receive a tracking number as soon as your package ships.
What is Orton-Gillingham tutoring and do you offer it?
Orton-Gillingham (OG) is a structured, sequential, and multisensory approach to reading instruction — widely considered the gold standard for teaching students with dyslexia. Mary is a trained OG tutor and offers private tutoring sessions. Visit the Orton-Gillingham Tutoring page to learn more or book a session.
